Free Lunch

The Last Sunday of the month from 1:00 – 3:00 PM

The last Sunday of each month a church family or group sponsors the Free Lunch by selecting the menu and preparing the main course. The deserts are provided by many of our church members. There are many volunteers that help serve the food and drinks, help with setup and cleanup after the lunch is over. Most of the volunteers are church members but anyone is welcome to help. The lunch is FREE to anyone who is hungry or would like to share in the fellowship. Donations are accepted to support the program but never required.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is St. John’s way of tithing on the collection of money given by the congregation’s tithing. We help 30 households in the St. John’s neighborhood which is from 22nd St. to 26th. The group goes out the next to last Sunday each month. The items we give out are personal and household items not covered by government assistance. The households were chosen on their need and our availability. It has been a very successful program and a way for St. John’s to meet and get to know our neighbors. Our GOAL here is to further the KINGDOM of GOD and to bring as many souls to his KINGDOM to learn his word and build a relationship with our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. Here is a really great place to learn how to except JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR.

About AOI

Mission Statement

Guided by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and inspired by the Holy Spirit, the mission of Appalachian Outreach is to help relieve the burden of poverty and the loss of dignity suffered by the people of Appalachia who, through no fault of their own, struggle to meet the basic needs of daily life.

We continually look for contacts in counties where accessibility and opportunity are limited and other charitable agencies are lacking or struggle to meet local need. We also look for contacts locally who will support the mission of Appalachian Outreach, therefore building a network where the dignity of all is respected and the love of God is proclaimed through prayer, word, and deed.

The Angel Tree

For Family Services and local Church adopted families.

The St. John’s Angel Tree is one of our Christmas outreach missions. This project consists of either a local agency giving us names with needs of local residents or we use people within our church neighborhood who need help at Christmas. The names with items desired are written on a cut out angel and hung on the tree in our Fellowship Hall for members of our congregation to select. The names in need will be shopped for and gifts will be delivered to them on Christmas Eve. For more information please see Shirlee Holloway.
